A romantic wedding in Dalat beside lavender fields is a dream wedding.
” Daan & My story “
“So you’re still single? Why?”, asked (now Daan and My’s mutual friend) Hien on a chance encounter in Layla Bar, one of Saigon’s “hot spots” at the time.
Daan didn’t have to think long. “I’ve had my experiences, and with each one I got a clearer image of who I’d want to end up with. Alas, this resulted in a list of desired traits from my partner-to-be that’s as long as it is unrealistic.”
“It can’t be that bad… I mean, what’s on that list then?” Hien openly wondered. “Do you have a minute? Okay, here we go. First off, she has to be smart. Have a totally unique personality. She should be creative. Independent. Beautiful. Of course, beautiful. (Editor’s note; “good DNA” may have been uttered here.) She should be friendly, open and communicative. But at the same time have her own point of view that strays from the “masses.” Preferred? Short hair, awesome style and a gentle voice.
So yeah. You can see why I’m still single.”
Hien didn’t hesitate for a moment. “My man. Say no more. Check this out,” he said, while he quickly searched for @lila2111 on Instagram. In a swift move, he turned the phone and help it in front of Daan’s face. “Dude. She’s all of that. Just look.”
One conversation, that’s all it took for Daan to learn about Huyen My. (And she about him, Hien proved to be a good multi-tasker.) So, he hit “follow” on the Instagram-profile he’d just discovered, sent her a message with an invite to go on a coffee date, and the rest… is history.
Well, if with “is history” you’d imagine a 6-month period of Daan sending My messages, My sometime replying, sometimes not. Conflicting schedules, repairman in her apartment, late nights in the office… the two ended up meeting not sooner than almost half a year after that faithful night.
But well, it worked, and that’s all that matters (right?). After finally meeting, the two have not left each other’s sides for much more than a hot minute. Flash forward to Valentine’s Day 2018, and magician Petey Magic at a very romantic dinner in the even more romantic Mgallery Hotel (this Daan must be quite the baller, ed.) handed the couple one playing card each and asked to both write the one word that came to mind about each other.
Shuffle, pull, and there were the two cards, stuck together as if they were one card, and always had been. And what did it read?
“Dream woman.”
“Like a little boy.”
There’s no better way to tell the story of these two people, so different and yet so connected in each and every way, than this.
